Can we use Yule - the pagan holiday of the changing of seasons (where Yule log came from)??? I think it’s a bit wrong to discriminate against pagans who celebrate Yule if we can’t enter something like that to possibly win a prize. I am pro all religions and feel that Yule should be accepted as much as any other religion is.

I made my first template, but I don’t think it was sized right. Can’t change it now! Good luck everyone…capt.

I think you are over thinking Yule, because I have always seen it’s themes to coincide nicely with holiday designs. I can’t speak on behalf of Zazzle, but they (in my opinion) are not discriminating against pagans or the celebration of Yule. Many of the traditions practiced throughout the holidays are based on Yule traditions.
Many religions/groups celebrate Yule differently in different parts of the world. “Yulefest”, for example, is held by many Australians on a weekend in late June.
Wikipedia has a great page about Yule for those interested (this is just an excerpt): “Many of the symbols and motifs associated with the modern holiday of Christmas are derived from traditional pagan northern European Yule celebrations. The burning of the Yule log, the decorating of Christmas trees, the eating of ham, the hanging of boughs, holly, mistletoe, etc. are all historically practices associated with Yule. When the Christianization of the Germanic peoples began, missionaries found it convenient to provide a Christian reinterpretation of popular pagan holidays such as Yule and allow the celebrations themselves to go on largely unchanged, versus trying to confront and suppress them.”

Oh yeah, and my point was…
I would assume the “Season’s Greetings” category should do nicely for Yule, or “Winter” for the celebration of the winter solstice.

The whole point I was trying to make was that if someone did say put “Merry Yule” or “Happy Yule” on the card, would that card not be able to win a prize? I am aware that it’s celebrating the winter solstice and personally, my card won’t say Yule on it anywhere. But I feel that it would be wrong if someone wanted to say that on their card and then it was disqualified for that. Perhaps zazzle isn’t discriminating, but it wasn’t mentioned that you could use the word Yule either when other major holiday names were listed.

My first time ever making a template and it ended up with an extra image! So… I hope that won’t confuse anyone too much.
If you think it will, please tell me and I’ll remake it (I just didn’t feel like taking the time, because I’ve been trying to get this to work for forever!). =)

The words listed are THEMES only - so Yule falls into the christmas theme. I don’t see a problem with it.

Here is my very first template, and I hope I did everything right. My popup blocker programs were interfering with my being able to get to different screens to create it. I finally turned them all off while I was working on the template, so that I could attempt to create it and it worked! Thank goodness! Here is my entry!

I understand what you mean! I celebrate Yule
Most of the time I call it Winter Soltice since many non-pagan faiths like to use or say ‘yuletide greetings’… but i tell everyone merry yule…

so who won???
November 11, 2007 at 4:12 am
Contest rules state 2 days for results, though there are quite a few entries which may take longer. Not an easy decision with this talent pool.
November 11, 2007 at 9:53 pm
It also occurred to me that perhaps the judges are testing out the templates as well. If I was a judge, that would certainly be what I would do. I would want to see the template in action. ^_^
November 13, 2007 at 12:10 pm
perhaps 2 business days? It was a holiday weekend here. The contest ended Friday night, so IF they meant business days, that might mean an announcement tomorrow.
November 13, 2007 at 3:30 pm
Ah… I never thought about the 2 business day thing… Good point Kerry. ^_^
November 14, 2007 at 6:24 am
Didn’t see where it said two days, but I did read this:
“Note: This contest is now over. Winners will be announced after Monday.”
The last contest had the same message, and was announced approximately two weeks after it ended. Could be a little bit - especially with over 100 entries. I’m sure it is time consuming to go through the entries and determine what designs followed the rules, whose templates actually work, and finally decide who the winner/honorable mentions are. I know we’ve all looked at each others entries and have our favorites! Can’t wait to see if any of my favorite designs are award winners!!
November 14, 2007 at 9:01 am
The suspense is killing me lol.
Good luck to everyone!
November 14, 2007 at 4:21 pm
however, the official rules do state, “notified by e-mail on or about November 11, 2007″
found here…that’s where the “two days” comes from as posted by LadyOyuki
rules
best of luck to all!

4 Color Business Cards
I have a small fascination with business cards ( here , here , here , and here ). They’ re ubiquitous in our world, and they’ re also garbage to many people. But I think they can be so much more. That’ s why I wanted to share some great business …
